Our school is big and beautiful. The building has a ground floor and two more floors. We’ve favourite places at school: the roof with the clock and his machine. The Forbidden Garden, the school playground, the gym and the sports field.

We have thirteen classrooms. Our school classes have names of animals.
Nursery class are Chicks age 0, Ducklings and Penguins (age 1) and Ants (age 2)
In the kindergarden are the Bunnies (age 3),Birds (age 4) and Lions (age 5)
In the Primary Classes are: Eagles (year 1), Spiders (year 2), Hoopoes (year 3), Seagulls (year 4), Chamois (year 5) and Beavers (year 6).

Assistance and lunch list. We write the names of the ones who have lunch at school. We count our classmates
Secretary, who Brings the lists to the school's secretary and all the information she asks.
Cleanning the tables. We clean the tables after having breakfast
Tyding up toys. We check everything is tidy
Library organizers. We tidy the class library
Giving tools.We give pencils and crayons to work.
The eldest at school are in charge of the henhouse we have in the playground. There are rabbits and hens.We clean and feed them. When there are eggs, we pick them up and share. Delicious!! In January and February we don't collect the eggs to have chicks. When the female rabbit gets pregnant, we have bunnies and we take care of them.

Opening of the year. We could define it as an “Open doors day”. The new year presentation, welcoming the pupils, teachers and parents who can visit every classroom, and all school's facilities.

In Christmas a magic log appears in the playground and gives some presents to everyone. Children sing Christmas songs and there are some Christmas performances.
In Carnival everybody dresses up fancy costumes.
In Easter children make a typical Easter cake. Everybody decorates one egg.
Saint George is Catalonia's patron saint. There are a lot of short stories performances.
The end of school year and farewell party it's the end of the school year and we say goodbye to the eldest students.

The school was founded in 1863 so that the working class could learn how to write and read with the help of Father Marià.
On 25th August, during the festival of Igualada, Ateneu Igualadí of the working class was opened in Sant Magí street.

On July 17th and 18th 1873, the school was burnt by the “Carlins” (an ultraconservative Spanish movement) who considered that teach to write and read to the working class was a waste of time. After the school was burnt there was found a letter that said: “ I am an owl who lives alone, if you build it up again I'll burn it down.
On 1st September 1920, they built a new building, the current School Palace.
During the Spanish Civil war (1936-1939) the National Spanish Troops came to Igualada and closed the School during all the Dictatorship and opened a new one with the name of: National School Castells Comas.
In 1977 Escoles de l'Ateneu recovered its name and values.The buildingwas very damaged and could be restored thanks to all the supporters. In 1978 the historical primary school was inaugurated again.
